A 3D modeled "mechanical creature" that tells a story through its design and environment.

For this project, I chose to create a mechanical flamingo. Inspiration was found in the flamingo's typically bright feathers as well as their tendency to travel in flocks known as a "flamboyance". These associations have been juxtaposed with bleak isolation and cold, rigid metal scraps. With this, it also seemed fitting to diverge from the flamingo's conventional warm, Caribbean environment and use a desolate and gloomy backdrop instead.

I did some light sketching to figure out the overall composition of the mechanical flamingo. After getting a general idea, I began modeling the components in 3D Studio Max. The images below depict the progression of the model. It started as a simple, untextured cage with basic geometry inside, and eventually developed into more intricate components with texture.
After rendering the entire model, it was composited onto the background using PhotoShop. Below are the final renders.
